GHD's are really the best

they are a lot of money

but well worth it

They are about 100 pounds

however they come with a life time guarentee

which is excelent

no other hair straightners have worked so well on my hair

the only other alternative

is to go to a salon that does afro hair

and get them to straighten it for you

the you the oven type straighters

I've been trying to stay as close to natural as I can, too. The flat iron on a low-medium setting seems to work well. When using leave-in conditioner, make sure you allow the hair to mostly dry before use, so that it won't sizzle when you press it.

There's also a new treatment - Brazilian Keratin Straightening - that's supposed to be great for all types of hair. Hey, I usually have weave or extensons but when I have my natural hair I think it is best to go to a black unisex salon because they are really good and have good hot combs curlers and stuff for our type of hair.

You are not using the correct hot comb. You need one that has wide teeth for the whole head, and for the hair line and roots you need the small teeth. Hot 'N Gold makes a great hot comb.

Sounds like you are not using the right heat (temp) when you use the hot comb. I was never good with the non electrical one (kept making it too hot and ruined my hair a few times). So I got an electrical one with different temperature settings, no more ruines! :-)

Have you tried simply blowdrying with a hair dryer and a comb? Take a small section at a time and comb through while blow drying. If you have no attachments, you can still do it by using a comb while blow drying it.

Might want to start with low heat first. It can get tiring if you have a lot of hair and it's thick.

Going to a natural hair salon will also give you geat ideas and tips. Not to mention the web.
